Hafod Care Association is a Housing Association, first registered in 1998, that provides Care and Support services to aid vulnerable people throughout South and West Wales.
Hafod Care began delivering services in 2002, with the emphasis on supporting people in their own homes. Our services included the development of Tenant Support in Cardiff, the Vale of Glamorgan, Bridgend, Rhondda Cynon Taf (RCT) and Newport. Our first domiciliary care service also began operation in RCT in 2005.
New care and support services have been developed in Bridgend and Torfaen – Picton Court residential home (Porthcawl), Brocastle residential home, and Ty George Lansbury extra care scheme (Cwmbran).
Our latest developments include a brand new residential home at Woodcroft (Cardiff), accompanied by “close care” apartments named “Dol yr Hafren”. The Ty Cwm extra care scheme is due to open in Merthyr Tydfil in 2012.
In the last 10 years, Hafod Care has taken over the management of care and support services previously delivered by the Association’s sister organisation, Hafod Housing. These included the Gwynfa Hostel, Llanishen, which began providing care for people with enduring mental health problems in 1983, sheltered accommodation at Parc Hafod, Whitchurch, and a number of staffed houses throughout Cardiff.
Hafod Care also manages residential care services to older people in Cardiff, the Vale of Glamorgan and Torfaen.
In 2011, Hafod Care took over the co-ordination of a number of supported housing and floating support schemes previously managed by Foundation Housing. The projects range from floating and static support for vulnerable young people (age 16-24) in Carmarthenshire, to projects in Cardiff for single people and families in temporary accommodation. There are also projects in the Vale of Glamorgan, e.g. floating support and temporary accommodation.
In all the Association’s direct care projects, significant use has been made of advocates, activities organisers and charities such as Age Concern, to advocate for true choice, participation in activities and community involvement.
