Dol yr Hafren welcomes its first residents

The first residents have moved into the new Dol yr Hafren “close care” apartments - brand new, purpose-built accommodation positioned in the heart of Cardiff’s Trowbridge community.

The 15 independent flats are easily accessed from the ground floor which contains the communal lounge, internet café and laundry via a large lift. Each flat is self-contained and carefully designed to allow the highest degree of independence for people with significant physical disabilities or degenerative health conditions.

They are situated next door to the specialised facilities of the new Woodcroft care home. Tenants will receive care and support when they need it, in their own flat, according to their own needs and from their own dedicated Domiciliary care team.

Individual care and support

Care and support at Dol yr Hafren is tailor-made to each individual’s needs. A 24-hour dedicated domiciliary care service will operate from the residential care home only yards away. Residents will be able to access staff using their own personal call system, giving them independence and peace of mind.

Close proximity to the Woodcroft care home brings extra conveniences. A specialised laundry service and meals delivery service will be available to residents.

Housing-related advice and support provides practical assistance with budgeting, health and lifestyle, domestic abilities, finding education, training and employment opportunities, and accessing local support networks.

Independent living

Dol yr Hafren contains a mix of one and two bedroom flats, purpose built to the Welsh Government’s extra-care housing standards. Each flat is independent, but residents will also be able to enjoy communal spaces such as a small shared lounge-diner, and IT room.

For extra safety and security, a CCTV system will be in operation providing surveillance of external areas.

Accessible parking spaces for residents and visitors are located adjacent to the main entrance to the flats.
