Tenants take benefits petition to Parliament
A Hafod Care service user and his support worker have joined tenants from Welsh housing associations travelling to London to deliver a petition about welfare changes.
Dave and Sylvia presented the petition to ex-Islwyn MP Lord Touhig. It is the first to be presented before the house in over a decade.
The signatories believe changes will “disproportionately affect those in greatest need, including homeless and vulnerable families, those in need of housing-related support, people with physical and mental health problems and children living in poverty, and will lead to greater long-term economic and social costs for local authorities, housing associations and Government.”
Community Housing Cymru (CHC) has also drafted a list of amendments it wants made to the Bill before it gets Royal Assent and will be lobbying the Lords in the weeks ahead. The amendments are intended to help individuals avoid homelessness or experience further deprivation.
