Cwmbran House provides residential care for 57older persons in 3 separate living areas. Two units provide accommodation for physically dependent older people, another unit for the dementia care where a dedicated staff team have been trained to a high standard to provide an innovative approach to the care residents receive. A respite care facility is also available.
Two units contain a lounge and dining area with fully fitted kitchen, whilst the third unit contains 3 small kitchen/dining areas adjoining the bedrooms.
Each unit has a specially adapted bedroom with an overhead hoist and integrated bathroom, domestic laundry rooms and generous storage space.
All bedrooms are fully furnished with co-ordinating fixtures and fittings together with en suite toilet facilities and a sink unit. The majority of bedrooms also have en-suite shower rooms, adapted bathrooms are provided if residents would prefer. Each bedroom has its own telephone socket. A high degree of privacy and security is supported by the provision of lockable doors and furniture. Residents are encouraged to bring their own personal possessions.
A communal dining area and lounges are also situated in Cwmbran House. All rooms are fitted with an 'assistance call system' to summon support when required.
Cwmbran House is staffed 24 hours a day by a well motivated, trained team who will confidently assist to meet the care needs of all who stay here. Staff at Cwmbran House enable residents to maximise their abilities and remain in control of their lives, by being helped to meet many of their needs beyond just basic care.
A specially named member of staff will also assist in shopping (with, or on behalf of a resident). liaising with family and friends, and in some instances acting as advocate for a resident (with consent).
A special relationship can develop between this staff member and the resident which reinforces that living at Cwmbran House can be a very positive choice.
Cwmbran House also offers both respite and long term accommodation to adults who have been assessed by a Care Manager of Torfaen Social Services as needing residential care.
Meals provided at the home are of a consistently high standard and a wide choice of food is available at each mealtime, ranging from hot food through to salads and snacks. Menus reflect seasonal trends and special diets. The wishes and requests of residents are catered for in a creative and appealing way, along with cultural and ethnic cuisine as required.
We can arrange visits from doctors, nurses, chiropody services, dentists, solicitors, hairdressers and beauticians.
Church services of most denominations can be attended locally (transport arrangements can be made) also a visit by a faith representative to Cwmbran House can be arranged. Residents may choose to dine in the communal atmosphere of the main dining room or in the more homely surroundings of their private living area.
A laundry service for personal clothing is available if needed. A wide range of leisure activities both within and outside Cwmbran House take place for residents. Each year trips are organised to places of interest as reflected by the wishes of the residents. Within Cwmbran House there is a regular programme of planned activities available to all residents, including social evenings, quiz nights, singalongs, barbeques, interest groups and reminiscence sessions by trained staff. Local artistes also visit.
Torfaen's mobile library service visits fortnightly with a good selection of books, videos and tapes. Sensory impairment needs are also catered for at the home.
Daily papers may be delivered to Cwmbran House by arrangement with the local newsagent.
A telephone is also available for residents to make calls in privacy. Residents may also have a telephone installed in their own rooms at their own expense.
Families and friends are encouraged to participate in all aspects of life at the home.
