Ty Gwyn Care Home is a single storey building set up in pleasant grounds and is situated on Ty Gwyn Way, Fairwater, Cwmbran. There are bus stops very near the home and there are also many taxi firms serving the area. The nearest towns to Ty Gwyn are Cwmbran, Newport and Pontypool.

Ty Gwyn Care Home provides residential accommodation for 34 older persons both male and female aged 65 and over. The home is not registered to provide nursing care.Ty Gwyn has three self contained areas accommodating 17 people in Mountain View and 17 in the other 2 units. Two other additional bedrooms are available for respite care.

Two of the units consist of a lounge, dining/kitchen area, bathroom with bath hoists, two toilets and eight single bedrooms, which residents are able to lock if desired.

The home has integrated fire alarm systems with heat or smoke detectors and emergency lighting throughout the home. Residents' call systems are also in the lounges, toilets and bathrooms. All lounges have comfortable seating, television, video and radio. One of the largest lounges is en_mainly used for social events and contains a hi-fi and organ. A smoking room is available for residents. All service users are encouraged to bring in their own personal possessions as long fire regulations are met.

Ty Gwyn is staffed 24 hours a day by a well motivated, trained team who will confidently assist to meet the care needs of all who stay here. Staff at Ty Gwyn enable residents to maximise their abilities and reen_main in control of their lives, by being helped to meet many of their needs beyond basic care.

A specifically named member of staff can also assist with shopping (with, or on behalf of a resident) and liaising with family and friends. With residents' consent we can access other agencies on their behalf. The Advocacy Service's representative visits every month. Staff take the time to get to know the individuals and their personalities together with an appreciation of their backgrounds, life experiences and future aspirations.

Meals provided at the home are of a high standard and a wide choice of food is available at each mealtime. Menus are planned on seasonal changes and all residents are consulted. Meals range from hot food through to salads and snacks. Special diets are also available for service users who require this service. The wishes and requests of residents are catered for in a creative and appealing way, along with cultural and ethnic cuisine as required.

Ty Gwyn staff can arrange visits from doctors, nurses, chiropody services, dentists, solicitors, hairdressers and beauticians as well as other professionals.

A wide range of leisure activities both within and outside the care home take place for residents. Each year trips are organised to places of interest as reflected by the wishes of the residents.

Within Ty Gwyn there is a regular programme of planned activities available to all residents, including social evenings, quiz nights, singalongs, barbeques, interest groups and reminiscence sessions by trained staff. Local artistes also visit.

Torfaen's mobile library service visits fortnightly with a good selection of books, videos and tapes. Sensory impairment needs are also catered for at the home. If your social life extends independently into the community, Hafod Care apologises that we cannot provide transport, escorts or cover additional costs.

Daily papers may be delivered to the care home by arrangement with the local newsagent. A telephone is also available for residents to make calls in privacy. Residents may also have a telephone installed in their own rooms at their own expense.
