Ty Newydd, Cardiff

Ty Newydd is a large purpose built Home for 38 people. The age of residents varies from 60-90. The Home is close to a very busy road and thoroughfare, there are two schools (nursery and infants) opposite, and a Church next door, all of which have links with the Home.

There are other Churches of various denominations within the area and Ministers visit the Home and services are held. There are a group of shops within talking distance to the Home. There are 38 single bedrooms with washing facilities en suite; Residents and families are encouraged to personalise the rooms the rooms (pictures, small pieces of furniture, TV etc.). Keys are available for all bedrooms. There are a number of lounges within the home and also a designated smokers lounge.

Ty Newydd is a Residential Home so Nursing Care is not provided but there is access to the Community District Nurses. The Home operates a "Key Worker" system for each individual client (they would be one of the Care Officers in the Home). Their primary function is to link closely with the resident and family/friends (looking at individual physical, emotional and social needs) and how these needs could be met.

The Home is well adapted with aids to encourage daily living, hand rails in all corridors, bath hoists and life.
All areas have an Emergency Call system and there are always staff to help.

Medicines are normally kept centrally and administered by staff at correct times.

The Home has an Activities organiser who visits twice a week, and also an Advocate from Age Concern visits weekly. A hairdresser visits weekly and a chiropodist every six weeks, there is a small charge for these services. Other services are brought in when necessary, Opticians and Dentist. There are no set visiting times but visitors are asked to avoid meal times.
