Lord Mayor opens new bar at our Woodcroft Care Home

Residents at Hafod’s Woodcroft Care home in Trowbridge, Cardiff can now enjoy a trip to the pub without leaving home!

Staff are always thinking of ways to improve the lives of residents and the new bar is the latest edition to the home.

The Welcome Inn was opened by Lord Mayor of Cardiff, Cllr Bob Derbyshire who enjoyed a pub lunch and a sing along with residents and this was a particularly special occasion as it was his last public engagement as Mayor.

He said: “It’s been my absolute pleasure to open the Welcome Inn at Woodcroft care home today. As we get older we often have to forego simple things like a trip to the pub but this being on-site means the residents and their families can enjoy getting together and socialising and all without having to leave home!”

Elaine Mather, Home Manager said:

“We are committed to promoting independence and well-being and many of our residents have mobility issues or are living with dementia so it can be difficult for them to make trips out. We have a lovely lounge which we decided to give it a makeover and turn it into a much more sociable space. Our new bar enables our residents and their families to enjoy a coffee, soft drink or their favourite tipple in a relaxing environment.  We even have a dart board for them to play a game of darts. Families are also able to take their loved ones for a pub lunch!”

Familiar surroundings can have a big impact on people living with dementia and can often help them to recall happy feelings and experiences.

Elaine continued:  “We’ve had great support from local businesses including SA Brains who generously donated pumps, branded drip trays, beer mats, and garden parasols and Carlo from Brains even made the bar! Thanks also to our Activities Coordinator, Irene Morgan who managed to source a huge range of equipment and memorabilia. A big thank you and cheers from all of us at Woodcroft!.”

On behalf of his team, Chris Williams, Head of Technical Services at SA Brains said:

“S A Brain have been delighted to help the residents of Woodcroft Care Home by supplying items of branded Brains memorabilia to help with the their wellbeing and recall”.

Located in the heart of Trowbridge, Woodcroft is a purpose built, modern home providing residential and dementia care to over 60 residents. To find out more or to arrange a visit please call 029 2077 4500.
